Atmospheric Series

Atmospheric Series plays with the concept of the compressed gases that allow humans to breathe and function while exploring outer space. This series follows the spirit of the 2015 artwork Airlock, which features a curved capsule falling close to the chin, resembling a collar for a space helmet or some type of breathing apparatus. These words combine capsules with fabricated sterling silver, rubber, steel and plastic to create the effect of gear for the mission. They aid and contradict, or rather constrict the act of breathing and safety. Their surfaces ask to be handled, and although their forms are at first basic and funny, they become--under thoughtful inspection--fundamental to the fear and exhilaration of traveling to extreme places, which humans have convinced themselves must be investigated.
